EDI

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is the computerized exchange of business documents electronically between two or more companies. EDI allows computers to communicate with minimal employee involvement. Many large retailers require their suppliers to use EDI for orders and invoices. WoodWare System, in conjunction with an EDI Value-Added Network, provides EDI solutions to the millwork industry.

EDI is being increasingly utilized by companies to:

  • Eliminate or reduce overstaffing
  • Reduce order lead time
  • Improve accuracy
  • Reduce paperwork
  • Increase productivity
  • Reduce keying & re-keying information
  • Improve customer service
  • Provide for faster payments of invoices
  • Reduce errors
  • Cut costs

EDI is more than just a technology that makes it faster and simpler to transmit orders and other documents. EDI should be incorporated into an overall business strategy that will provide benefits for both trading partners. When used properly, EDI can help the large retailers, as well as providing significant benefits to the millwork distributors and manufacturers who trade with the retailers.
