System Summary

Integrated barcoding in the millwork industry began with WoodWare Systems. In 1990, WoodWare became the first software and technology company to develop integrated barcoding applications for millwork companies. WoodWare’s barcoding applications provide fully integrated solutions for physical inventory, cycle counting, receiving, shipping, cross-docking, label printing, and more. The results that WoodWare customers have experienced with barcoding technology have been very positive. Some of the significant paybacks experienced with WoodWare’s barcoding solutions include:

  • Inventory accuracy improves to better than 99 percent through the use of barcoding applications (variance at year-end physical inventory is less than one percent).

  • Total man-hours needed to count a $3 million inventory drop from over 1200 man-hours with about 40 counters in the warehouse (about four days’ worth) to under 200 man-hours with about 15 counters (count completed in one day at a fraction of the expense) through the use of barcode scanners and automated data collection.

  • Inventory turns increase from about four turns to about nine turns while fill rates stay consistently between 97.8 percent and 99.4 percent.

WoodWare offers a complete and cost-effective line of barcoding software and equipment, including both fixed and portable data collection terminals utilizing Radio Frequency (RF) communications, laser scanners and wands, and both thermal and thermal transfer printers. Barcoding in your millwork operation can produce time savings in many applications of up to 70 percent with a minimal investment that yields a payback in less than a year.
