Software Overview |
| WoodWare Systems introduced barcoding and automated data collection to the millwork industry in 1990. We have continued to expand and enhance the barcode capabilities of our software through the use of improved and cost-effective equipment, including scanners, portable printers, and the
use of Radio Frequency (RF) equipment. Several RF-based modules have been implemented by WoodWare Users. These include physical inventory, cycle counting, receiving, shipping, and cross docking. The RF Receiving module has been especially effective for WoodWare Users. As product is received from your supplier, a light-weight portable hand-held RF scanner reads the barcode on the product as it is unloaded from the truck. The Radio Frequency technology allows for an immediate signal to the main WoodWare System, which compares the item being received with the Purchase Order for the item. The WoodWare System first checks the outgoing Shipping file to determine if this particular product is needed for an out-bound truck, in which case the product can be put into a staging area at the dock. A portable printer used by the receiving person can produce an outgoing shipping label with a barcode on it for that product. If the product is not needed for an out-bound delivery, the WoodWare System then checks the production programs to determine if the product is needed in the shop. If so needed, a label can be printed which identifies the product as needed in production, and the product can be staged for production or taken straight to the shop. The product, if not needed for production or out-bound shipping, can then be put away into its building/bin location as directed by the WoodWare System. Inventory is updated automatically within WoodWare, providing for improved inventory accuracy. Products are handled once, saving both time and money compared to traditional warehousing approaches. Some distributors have found that the time to unload and handle products can be reduced by as much as 30 to 50 percent when the WoodWare RF Receiving and Cross Docking module is used. |
