Cache Database with Crystal Reports
The opportunity to use Crystal Reports as their pc-based custom report writer has led several WoodWare customers to add the Caché Database Interface Module and Crystal Reports to their system. WoodWare customers implementing and using this module include: Barnett Millworks, The Donlin Company, Gates Lumber, Heister House Millworks, J.B. OMeara Company, Midwest Jobbers, Nashville Sash & Door, Pre-Hung Doors, Reeb Millwork Corporation, and Slone Lumber Company.
There are two primary approaches that WoodWare customers are using with this. One is for us to install the Caché Database on a small pc server with the interface of data from their primary WoodWare System, and then use Crystal Reports to create custom reports from this Caché Database. The other approach is for companies who are ready to upgrade their main WoodWare server. They will implement a dual processor server with both the WoodWare System and the Caché Database installed.
The reason there is a need for the additional server approach is that, as part of our migration to the new WoodWare platform, we will be migrating our SCO-Unix users to the Linux operating system, which works with Caché. For any IBM RS/6000 users on the AIX operating system, it may be possible for you to use your existing server to add Caché, since Caché also works with AIX.
Both approaches will pave the way for these customers to implement the new, graphical WoodWare System. If you want to get a head start on putting the graphical version of WoodWare in place, you may want to consider implementing the Caché Database now.
